Selina Sevil
DANCE TEACHER
Selina is one of Scandinavia’s leading belly dancers. She is trained in Egyptian, Turkish and Lebanese belly dancing. Selina is often invited to other countries as a belly dance teacher and referee in national championships. Selina’s teaching techniques are described by other dance teachers as “think outside the box”. She trains teachers, competitive dancers and professional artists. Through the Middle East’s premier agency for belly dancers in Lebanon, she has performed internationally. In addition to Europe, she has performed in Dubai, Qatar, Lebanon, Oman, Turkey, Tunisia, Iraq and China.
“In addition to technique, a belly dancer should understand the culture, music and history of dance. “Only then can you dance oriental dance with feeling.”

Questions & Answers
BELLY DANCE CLASSES
Useful information for your belly dance course.
Membership
Membership is mandatory for everyone who dances with us. Membership costs SEK 50 per year. Add the membership to the shopping cart before paying.
CHOOSE BELLY DANCE CLASS
Choose which level you want to go to. Basic course to repeat. Or a continuation course at a higher level as a challenge. Note, however, that we do not repeat basic techniques on a continuation course. You are welcome to participate and do extra training at home or in private lessons as compensation. But we can’t stop a continuing education course to answer questions about basic steps.
TRY A BELLY DANCE CLASS
Yes, you absolutely can. Add the item “try a free dance lesson” to your cart and check out. It costs nothing. You choose which belly dancing course and which date you want to try.
HOW TO DRESS
Dancewear can look different. We recommend everyone to wear a scarf around the hips. Otherwise, it is important that the instructor can’t see the movements of your knees and stomach. This can be achieved by wearing leggings and a tank top. In our shop you will find dancewear. Complete with a pair of soft dance shoes and you’ve got everything you need.
DANCE WITH A INJUURY
It depends on the injury you have. Belly dance comes in many styles. Some use more of different body parts. When you dance belly dance, you use your knees a lot. If you have a severe knee injury, it can be difficult to dance oriental dance. The same applies if you have a severe back injury. But this is very individual. Sometimes doctors recommend that patients with injuries should just exercise them. The best thing you can do is to consult a doctor. Feel free to take “a free dance lesson” and feel how it feels.
NEW INSPRIRATION?
Today, there is so much music available online for free. YouTube and Spotify are two great places to stream music. On Selina’s youtube channel, she often uses music that you have on the belly dance courses. The title is often in the text so you can search for more music from the same artist. Selina often uploads belly dancing clips on social media.
DO YOU HAVE A AGELIMIT?
The youngest Dansöz student was 6 years old and the oldest 85 years old. So no, we can’t say that. But we don’t have courses just for children. Children under 12 are welcome to dance with their mothers. Or by themselves with a group of adults if they can handle it. Many children can do it technically.
WHAT ELSE IS GOOD TO PRACTISE
If you really want to invest in becoming a good belly dancer, we also recommend ballet and yoga. Ballet is a foundation in belly dance and yoga gives you flexibility. They are both great additions to belly dance classes.
WHEN CAN I DANCE?
It is very individual what you learn in a semester of belly dance. Each course description specifies the content of the course. In a basic course you will learn enough steps to dance as a guest at an Arabic party. For example, a wedding.
I WANT O BECOME A DANCE TEACHER
Selina has trained many dance teachers in oriental dance. Both in Sweden and abroad. If you want to learn to teach, you should have a solid foundation as an oriental dancer. If you don’t have it, this can also be trained with Selina. Expect, however, that this is something that is trained up over years. There is no shortcut to becoming a dance instructor.
LEARN BELLY DANCE
Practise a little every day. Listen a lot to oriental music. Watch a lot of different belly dancers. Try to understand the dance. The different styles and variations of music. Dancing has to be fun or it’s impossible. Try to incorporate it into your everyday life in small enough doses that you don’t find it hard. Continue until this becomes a habit. Once you have done this for a few months, you can extend the time. Before you know it, you’ve evolved a lot.
WILL I GET A FLAT BELLY?
You burn calories when you move. And you strengthen the muscles in your stomach when you use them. In the long run, this may show visual results. But if you take one course a week, this will not have any show any effect on your stomach. Instead, combine belly dancing with a good diet and strength training.

Sometimes it’s fun to dress up in color and it’s encouraged.
