BOOK-BELLY DANCE

Levels Belly Dance Courses

Which level to choose?

Belly dancing has an incredible number of basic steps. Therefore, it is impossible to learn all of them correctly in 10, 20 or 30 lessons.

In addition, teachers and dance schools define the levels differently. So if you danced one level at a dance school, it is very possible another dance school sees it as another level.

Teachers also use different techniques, so if you change teachers, keep that in mind. Further down this page you will find exact information describing all levels so you can find the right dance course!

Beginner

Always choose Level 1

If you have never danced belly dancing before or only a few semesters then you are a beginner.

What is Level 1?

On these courses, we go through all the movements thoroughly. You who have never danced belly dance should start with this level.

You who have danced 2-3 semesters are also recommended this level. Here you build up a base of different steps.

Level 1 courses have different content and you can choose the course you think sounds the most fun.

Dancing at home?

Never taken a belly dance course but danced belly dance at home? The advantage is that you certainly have more feel for the movements and the music. But if you have danced outside of courses, you lack a review of the right technique. Therefore, level 1, possibly level 2 is recommended, depending on the course content. Here you will learn all the movements thoroughly. What you already know gets better and you learn a lot of new things.

Easy continuation

You have been taking courses for 2-4 years

You know the basic steps (eg: eights, circles and shimmy). Choose courses at level 1-3.

Level 1: Why? Since belly dancing has an incredible number of basic steps, styles, and variations, you should still take belly dance classes at level 1. The foundation of your dance shows itself in all your continued technique and should always be improved.

Level 2: This level is a good fit for you. Here we layer on basic steps and begin to immerse ourselves in different styles. We also dance belly dance with tools (courses with equipment are also available at level 1 but not with belly dance movements).

Level 3: This level can be difficult for you. Here we often dance belly dance at a high pace. The technique is higher and several courses also include music analysis and style orientation. Depending on how quickly you have developed your dance and the content of the course, level 3 may be suitable.

Continued

You have taken courses 5-10 years

You have danced on semester courses and workshops that correspond to 5-10 years of courses spread over several years or consecutively. You have probably visited international festivals where you have taken lessons from foreign teachers. You have probably performed at several haflas and maybe competed. You are a continuation and recommended courses at level 1-4.

Level 2: Why? Learn different styles, gear, and build on your library of moves.

Level 3: This level is suitable for those who want to increase the pace. Here we often dance on tiptoe, drill more difficult technique, practice movements with layers and equipment. We often go into theory, style orientation and improvisation.

Level 4: This level is for dancing experience. You should be confident in your movements, spins and shimmies on your toes. High teaching pace, technique drilling, double-beat movements, music analysis, improvisation and style orientation.
